About
I'm Mubby.
Service designer. 7+ years in the messy middle where design, data and delivery meet.
Sometimes I'm designing.
Sometimes I'm asking questions .
Sometimes I'm figuring out how to get a stuck programme in front of the people who can move it.
Trained as an industrial designer and sharpened in financial services, healthcare, defence and now AI.
I have ADHD and dyslexia, and both of those shape how I work. One idea per line. Pictures over paragraphs. The question before the answer. I think they make me a sharper designer, not a slower one.
Lately I've been building my own things. Accent Studio pays native speakers of underserved African languages for voice data that AI labs can actually use. Do I Need AI tells people when they do not need AI. wecalledit.app is a live product I designed and shipped on my own, AI-natively.
Before that I spent a year at Oracle's Industry Lab in Reading, working on NHS and UK Army digital services, 5 years at Wema Bank building its innovation lab, and 2 years at Dozzia Systems learning the fundamentals. I coached 400+ founders through the Hackaholics programme along the way. I pitched Bridgee inside the bank and led it from an idea to a board-approved product.
I live in Reading. I have the right to work in the UK and I'm BPSS eligible. If any of this looks like your kind of work, mubbyrobyn@gmail.com.
5 moves that show up on every piece of work.
And the case studies where each one is easiest to see.
-
Lead discovery in complex, ambiguous contexts.
Owning end-to-end discovery without a defined brief, deciding what needs to be known before a decision is made, in domains where the expertise sits with other people.
-
Shape strategy through design.
Reframing problems, connecting policy, commercial and technical constraints with user needs, using systems thinking to find root causes and anticipate risks and dependencies. Helping businesses shape propositions, operating models and roadmaps.
-
Facilitate and convene.
Designing and leading sessions that move senior groups from discussion to decision, across engineers, clinicians, compliance and policy, without being the subject matter expert.
-
Make ideas tangible.
Blueprints, system maps, options papers, prototypes and live products, at the fidelity the decision needs. Artefacts that unlocked high-stakes calls rather than decorated them.
-
Lead and develop people, and raise design maturity.
Building a team of 13, developing a successor, a first design system, playbooks and toolkits that cut sign-off times by 30% for a 13-person design community.
